John Porter became the pastor of Meherrin Baptist Church (MBC) on January 1, 2017.  Pastor John has a passion for the gospel and is committed to leading MBC to focus on making disciples who make disciples! He challenges the church family to live sacrificially, with our motivation being rooted in what Christ has already done for us through His great sacrifice for all of our sin against God.   Knowing this, it is no surprise that one of his favored Bible verses is Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” 

John and his wife Ashley live in Murfreesboro, NC and have two incredible sons (Caleb and Nathan).

John is a veteran of the U.S. Army and had a career in Computer Technology before being called to pastor in the local church.  He has undergraduate degrees in Information Technology and Psychology.  He also holds a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
